Description
Join us in celebrating the world’s largest grassroots movement for the environment, and experience Earth Hour with the local community, including Aboriginal descendants of those who have been living sustainably from this land for thousands of years.
Council will again celebrate Earth Hour this year by hosting an event, ‘Heart and Soil’, from amphitheatre at Campbelltown Arts Centre.
‘Heart and Soil’ invites participants of all ages and cultural backgrounds to experience activities which reflect traditional and contemporary ways of connecting with the natural environment, through fun workshops and performances.Family friendly activities will kick-off from 6:00pm, and include:
- Aboriginal inspired chalk pavement art
- Ochre ceremonial face painting
- Seed collection with the Australian Botanic Gardens Education Team
- Star gazing with the Macarthur Astronomical Society.
* Please note that these activities will conclude around 7:00pm.
From sunset (just after 7:00pm), the second half of the night will begin with an Aboriginal smoking ceremony and storytelling followed by the following performances:
- Dancing and fire twirling from Matavai Cultural Arts
- Acoustic set from local musician Karleigh Rose Smith
At the conclusion of activities, participants are invited to take a seat around a fire pit, meet new people and join in conversations, or take advantage of the amphitheatre/grassed area and simply enjoy the tranquillity under a starry sky.
Light refreshments will be available, and attendees are also welcome to bring a picnic dinner.
Campbelltown’s ‘Heart and Soil’ event is one of many initiatives happening around the globe to celebrate a brighter and more sustainable future, becoming part of an interconnected global community, committed to creating a sustainable world.
Come along, bring the family and a comfy cushion to enjoy Earth Hour under the stars!
Fun for all ages.
Time: 6pm to 9.30pm
